The formal Application for Entry period for the 2008 Newport Bermuda Race has closed. Applications for Entry may be considered after this date solely at the discretion of the Bermuda Race Organizing Committee. As of the April 1 close of entry, 224 boats had met the race entry application deadline. A total of 214 boats have been cleared to enter the race, with another 10 applications still under consideration.

This will be the second-largest fleet in the 102-year history of the race, surpassed only by the fleet of 263 boats which sailed in the 2006 Centennial Race. The 2008 fleet is more than 40 boats larger than the previous non-Centennial entry record.

Skippers’ packages will be mailed to registered boats beginning April 6. You are encouraged to complete as much of the entry process as possible using our on-line entry and registration system.

The deadlines for the submission of required entry documentation are listed in NOR 5.2.1, 6.1, and 6.3.

For those who are entering the Newport Bermuda Race for the first time, we welcome your participation in one of the world’s great ocean races. For our returning skippers, welcome back for another shot at the biggest prizes in offshore sailing.

The 2008 fleet for the Newport Bermuda Race stands at 220 registered yachts.  This is the second largest fleet in the history of the race.  If you have not registered but would like to race, contact Nick Nicholson, Race Chairman, at chairman@bermudarace.com.
