Honey is arguably the most successful offshore racing navigator in modern history, and is one of the world’s most experienced offshore racing sailors.
One of Honey’s recent major triumphs was as navigator of the Volvo Open 70 ABN AMRO ONE in the 2005-2006 Volvo Ocean Race. ABN AMRO ONE dominated the Volvo Ocean Race fleet, handily finishing first overall in one of the world’s toughest round-the-world events.
Honey has been in demand for many modern record-breaking ocean passages, including navigation duties aboard Steve Fossett’s PLAYSTATION and with Roy Disney’s PYEWACKET program.
Most recently, Honey was appointed Technical Director for the Team Origin America’s Cup syndicate, coordinating one of the most complex technical challenges in sailing.
While sailors celebrate Honey’s achievements in offshore racing, sports-crazed TV fans owe him equally-important recognition. Yale-educated Honey was one of the founders of Sportvision, the innovative company that created the electronic first-down marker used in college and professional football broadcasts, electronic puck tracking and highlighting for National Hockey League television, and tracking software for NASCAR racing.
Honey and his wife, CCA member Sally Lindsay Honey, actively campaign their veteran Cal 40, ILLUSION, in West-coast races, including the TransPac.
The Safety at Sea Seminar is at the Hyatt Hotel on Goat Island in Newport. It is expected to sell out so reservations should be made immediately. Discount hotel rooms are available for $139/night. See Safety at Sea Seminars for registration and other details.
