Reflections from John Rousmaniere

Over all the time that I have occasionally raced to Bermuda, many of my peers have sailed in twice as many races but have never been invited to the prize ceremony at Government House, with its spectacular hilltop view of the archipelago of coral and cedar and small white houses. I am lucky not only in the silverware department.
Aeolus Calls the Shots

For the second Newport Bermuda Race in a row, Mother Nature—in the form of her servant Aeolus— is smiling on the small boats. Not without a price, however...
Meanwhile, Back in the Trenches...

Although the biggest, fastest boats have now either finished the race or are rapidly approaching the finish line, the bulk of the fleet is still stretched out over 300 miles of North Atlantic water. It may be the big boys who get all the early press, but the smaller boats may have their day when the finish times are adjusted by the rating system to determine the corrected time winners.

A Sunday evening report from Speedboat

If a race record is surprisingly slow there is often a very good reason for it.... it usually means that the race is sailed in a pretty tricky piece of water...
